When a cable fails, someone, somewhere loses their electrical supply.
We can provide a cable fault location service that includes:
* taking full control of electrical safety
* pinpointing the position of the fault
* excavation
* repair of the cable
* testing of the repaired cable and return to service
* reinstatement of the ground service
All of our fault location is carried out by our highly experienced Chartered Engineers using both bespoke test equipment and the latest test equipment available from leading manufacturers.
High precision bridge fault pre-location equipment
The fault location bridge DMB 5 is applied for the prelocation of low and high resistive cable faults and cable sheath faults in power or pilot cables.
Surge Voltage Generator
Surge voltage generators are used for pre-locating as well as for pin-pointing of high and low resistance faults in power cables.
The stored energy of the high voltage capacitors is fed at
intervals into the faulty cable. This causes an acoustic noise at the fault position which can be detected with a ground microphone and an audio frequency receiver.
Acoustic listening set
For pin-pointing of cable faults the digital Universal Locator is used with the ground microphone and surge voltage generator. With its integrated acoustic propagation time measurement the acoustic listener displays the distance to the fault in metres and indicates the position if the fault is reached. Below is a portfolio of our succesful fault locations
This fault was as a result of a three phase to earth partial short circuit
This fault was a single phase short circuit fault on a three phase, four core cable to earth
This was a partial open circuit fault located on the lighting circuit of a Motorway slip road
This was an open circuit fault
This was a short circuit fault on a single phase split concentric cable
This was an single phase open circuit fault on a pulled joint that also had a partial short circuit fault
This was the result of a partial short circuit fault on a single phase SWA cable
This fault was found in a joint that had not been filled with resin but had been put back into service

This fault was located on a motorway and was the result of a partial short circuit fault on a single phase SWA cable
